In winter, drivers have a lot of problems on the road, especially if the weather is snowy and the road is icy. It is recommended to avoid driving in snowy weather, but there are some cases, when driving a car is a necessity. Here are some helpful tips to keep out of danger on the icy road. First of all, it is recommended to avoid driving and wait till the road workers have cleared ice and snow out of the road. Secondly, it would be better to provide favorable conditions for driving in a snowy weather clearing the major parts of your car of snow and ice. Thirdly, it is required to ensure good visibility turning on the car’s lights. Fourthly, it is necessary to make the speed lower because icy roads are very dangerous for driving at high speed. Of course, it is forbidden to overtake vehicle if the road is slippery. One of the major rules that should be followed by any driver is to provide a considerable distance between his car and the onward vehicle. Fifthly, it is recommended to do everything possible to avoid skidding on the icy road, although insurance covers certain damages of your car if it is not your fault. Sixthly, it would be better to be very attentive in the most dangerous areas, such as bridges, road crossings and passageways and to slow down your speed. In case, the above mentioned methods do not work, it would be better to sweep off the snow from your car’s wheels and use sand or salt to avoid skidding. After all, any driver should remember that if he or she drives in remote areas, emergency supplies, such as wool blankets, first aid kit, flashlight, a box of matches and some food, emergency flares and warm clothing should be always available. As the cost of auto insurance is climbing, drivers should be very attentive on the roads in winter.
