Airbags and Seat Belts Save Lives

The first thing you should do when you take a seat in the car is to fasten your seat belt. It is really important to do so because if an accident occurs, it will rescue your life especially in combination with the air bag. More than that, car insurance companies require it. Unfortunately accidents do happen but this ideal pair will do their job perfectly well. With the arrival of airbag use some people often ignore seat belts. But the fact is that they are still indispensable. Neither drivers nor passengers should rest assured that the air bag alone is quite enough. These two things work together. When you seat yourself in your vehicle remember that the seating position in front of the air bag is decisive. Adults should keep the distance of minimum 10 inches from the steering wheel with their seat belts fastened. Sitting back in the seat is the best position if an accident happens.

There should be a special talk about children. Older children have the legal right to sit in the seat by themselves. Needless to say that they should be buckled up by all means and be the proper distance away from the air bag. What concerns toddlers and infants, they should always be seated in the back seat and be in special protective seats. Never should they sit in the front seat because if the airbag strikes, they can be seriously injured. If there is no other way but to place a seat with a child in the front seat, it should face the rear and be fastened in the proper way (see the manufacturer's instructions). By following these simple recommendations you will secure your children from injury.

When seat belts are used with airbags, fastening seat belts correctly is of no less importance no matter children or adults are concerned. See to it that the belt isn’t pulled behind the back or under a child’s arm. Being fastened in this way, the seat belt won’t protect the child in case of a collision. Teaching your child a proper way of using a seat belt is a good idea. Still, remember to check if they do so. They are children after all. The way adults should wear the seat belt is like that: the bottom strap should go across the waist and the shoulder strap should go diagonally over the chest. These are small measures but they make the difference between life and death. Besides, auto insurance companies usually give discounts to drivers with a good driving record. There is one more good reason for making your journey in the car safer ‒ you will avoid problems when making a car insurance claim from your insurance company.
